Polywater Powerpatch to the rescue

28 Sep, 2020

Located in the South Western QLD gas fields, a call from the client regarding a faulty seal on an LV transformer, provided a perfect candidate to demonstrate the effectiveness of Polywater’s Powerpatch.

Engaged to provide technical supervision, Lindsay Taylor travelled to the South Western Queensland gas fields to assist with valuable on-site guidance for the repair of the seal.

The client had been quoted a significant cost to refurbish the transformers which is generally the most common way of repairing this type of leak.

TEN was able to provide an ideal alternative solution to the costly process of shutting down and replacing the parts that were required.  There was also a big positive regarding the time required to complete the repair. With only 1 day for the outage on the transformer, the product application component only required 4hrs including the preparation and application, making this process far quicker than refurbishment which can take multiple days.

In addition to a shorter time taken to effect the repair, the exposure of the sealed parts to environmental contamination (air and water) was minimised and therefore only a small amount of oil was required without the need to flush and fill the 200+ litre main tank.

With the repair successfully executed, the efficient and economical repair using Polywater Powerpatch was extremely well received by the client.

Powerpatch will now be used to provide preventative and reactive maintenance for a further 20 transformers.

TEN’s ability to provide very effective answers to this type of problem, is why TEN is seen as a leading solution provider in Asset Life Extension.
